Terms and translations

Bulk-import terms

Upload CSV, XLSX, or JSON files to onboard existing translations in one go.

LangSync's bulk import is a two-step flow: upload the file, map its columns to LangSync fields, then apply. You can also have the AI auto-translate anything you didn't include.

Supported formats

  • CSV – typical exports from spreadsheets and most i18n tools.
  • XLSX – Excel workbooks. The first sheet is used.
  • JSON{ "term.mark": "value" } flat-map or { "lang": { "mark": "value" } } nested map.

Files up to a few thousand rows process synchronously; larger files run as background imports (you'll see status processingcompleted).

Step-by-step

  1. Open the namespace and click TermsImport.
  2. Select your file and upload.
  3. LangSync runs a precheck: it reads the file, detects columns or JSON shape, and returns a column → type guess.
  4. On the next screen, confirm or override the mapping:
    • Mark – which column contains the translation key.
    • Context – (optional) which column contains the developer note.
    • Translation in <language> – pick one column per language you want to import values for.
  5. Toggle Translate missing automatically on if you want the AI to fill any gap in target languages your file didn't include.
  6. Click Import.

LangSync creates new terms for marks that don't exist, updates values for marks that do, and leaves alone any term not referenced in the file.

Imports expire

Uploaded files are retained for 24–48 hours after the precheck. If you don't finalise the import in that window, you'll need to re-upload.

What's not imported

  • Glossary entries. Glossaries are managed separately – see Use a glossary.
  • Term metadata other than mark and context. Audit timestamps, IDs, and connection IDs are server-generated.
